Review: Play Acting (Gin & Jazz #7) by Morticia Knight

Former screen idol, Roman Pasquale, struggles to survive in Hollywood as the silent film era comes to a close. But a fresh new playwright is in town and he wants Roman to be more than just his star.

The past few years haven’t been kind to fading film star, Roman Pasquale. But then again, he was never very kind to anyone else either. He’s had time to reminisce on his mistakes and to accept responsibility for how he hurt others. Now that Global Studios has turned their back on him, he’s had to sell his grand estate and start over in a modest apartment.

His former co-star, actress Maude Simons, suggests that he meet with new playwright, Max Vogel. Not only will he get the chance to be the star again, Roman can really use the money. What he doesn’t expect, is how strongly he’s attracted to the easy going, confident young man—and the very wicked thoughts he has about him.

Playwright and director, Max Vogel, is delighted that the great Roman Pasquale has agreed to star in his play. What he was unprepared for however, was the intense physical spark that ignited the moment they met. He’s been warned of Roman’s reputation for being difficult to work with, but he’s willing to take the risk—even though his career depends on the success of this one play.

Max needs to coax a heartfelt performance out of Roman and Roman needs to live up to his resolve to be a better man. But maybe the real issue is whether or not the director and actor can resist the passion they have for one another, a lust so strong that it catches them unaware. Is their lust really love? Or will the drive for success destroy any hope for a happily-ever-after?

Who would've thought... Roman has been redeemed!

I really didn't know if I was going to be able to get over what he did to my poor Jacky-boy. But I did. He made up for his behavior and now I LUF HIM.

The blurb says that this can be read as a stand-alone. I would have to disagree. I don't think readers would appreciate the change in Roman without seeing his behavior during the relationship and fallout with Jack.  We've known, started to love and then kind of hated Roman from the start in book 1. I'd recommend readers start from the beginning with this series. Which is no hardship, as this is a great series.

Back to Roman...

How to redeem yourself from assholery. A step-by-step guide by Breann.

Step 1: Admit you're a pain in the ass and that nobody wants to deal with you and your assholery. <-- He done did this. He recognized how utterly unlikeable he was to the people around him and it made him slightly miserable. He also saw his errors in his relationship with Jack. Good! He was an ass. He should feel bad about it for a bit.

Step 2: Go out and flaunt your new nicer self! He did this (with a big push from Maude), but he was still Roman. Although, I would have liked to see a little bit more of his diva-ness come out, just to keep him truer to the character we originally knew. I did like that when he went back into the working world, he went to something different. He didn't go back to the same studio to do the same work again (I'm not entirely sure that they would have even taken him back). I think it helped change him into the person he wanted to be.

Step 3: Find yourself a hot boy and fuck him silly. With an extra side of dirty talk, please and thank you. Okay, so there wasn't sex right away but here was tension. Roman felt it. Max felt it. I felt it. They wanted each other bad, but there was this big play standing in their way. Neither wanted to put the project in jeopardy, so they stayed apart.
"'Do I make you uncomfortable, Max Vogel?'

His throat was too dry, so he reached for the glass of seltzer water then took a sip. It gave him a chance to break from Roman's penetrating stare and attempt to formulate a coherent response. He set the drink down and met Roman's eyes.

'Maybe. But not in a bad way.'

'Oh? There's a good way to be uncomfortable?'"
So, when they finally realized they both made each other uncomfortable in their pants, they went for it. They SO went for it. There were some spectacularly sexy scenes. And hello, dirty talk! I'm glad you're here to stay.

Max and Roman really worked well together. Roman is intense. He needed someone to match him in intensity. Jack was too soft for someone like him. But Max would give it right back and that's just what Roman needed.
"He needed his partner, his lover, not a whiny brat."
You get him, Max! Don't let him fall back into asshole-ville. And he didn't. I think Max kept him grounded. They were quite perfect for each other. I really enjoyed their story.

There you have it folks! Take it from Roman, there is redemption for the asses of the world.

One more thing:

"You don't need to pay me, just let me serve you. I'll suck your cock, lick your shoes. You don't even have to touch me. You can beat me, call me unspeakable names, tell me what a filthy little whore I am. I want you to. Humiliate me, make me yours." <-- Hector. Can we get more of this sweet little morsel? Please?
